Biography

Prior to her consultancy work with The Education Group, Marilyn was a primary school principal for 19 years. Her last principal’s role was at Papatoetoe Central School, a large primary school in South Auckland for 12 years.

Other previous roles in education include:

  • Associate Director, First Time Principals Programme, The University of Auckland
  • Contractor, Academic Development Unit and Teacher Education Centre, Unitec Institute of Technology, Auckland
  • Ten years in initial teacher education, including Assistant Director of Primary Teacher Education, at the former Auckland College of Education

Marilyn is an accredited growth coach with Growth Coaching International. She has extensive experience in teaching, teacher education and leadership development. She is also experienced in the appraisal of senior leadership teams and principals.

She was a member of the team who was invited by the Woolf Fisher Trust to set up international fellowships for primary and intermediate school principals. She was subsequently awarded a Woolf Fisher Fellowship that included leadership development at Harvard University.

As a previous President of the Auckland Primary Principals Association, Marilyn enjoyed contributing to the broader education community in Auckland. She was presented with the APPA Service with Distinction award in 2010.

She has strong interests in coaching, mentoring, leadership development and in supporting colleagues at all stages in their careers.

Marilyn is a GCI accredited coach.  She is engaged in one on one professional coaching, she works with The Education Group directors in Introduction to Leadership Coaching courses and she works with school leaders using a coaching philosophy for development.
