Principal in Paradise Aotea/Great Barrier Island

Years 1 to 8, 28 students

Te Kura o Okiwi is a full primary school with a current roll of 28 students, located in the heart of the Okiwi Valley on Aotea/Great Barrier Island. The kura is embraced by Ngā Paemaunga, and is within a short distance of the pristine Whangapoua Estuary.

Our Kura is Level 3 bilingual and has strong links to the local Iwi/hapū; Ngāti Rehua, Ngāti Wai ki Aotea. We are proud to maintain a meaningful relationship with both marae on the island. The Kura is committed to Te Ao Māori, te reo, me ōna tikanga.

The Kura focuses on developing strong Okiwi leavers who are resilient, adaptable and who can stand strong in their own mana motuhaketanga.

We are looking forward to welcoming a new principal who is flexible, adaptable, and able to cope with the challenges of living in an off-grid, isolated community. There is a three-bedroom house on site, available for the successful candidate and they will also be eligible for an isolation allowance.

The Kura’s curriculum has conservation at its heart and utilises organisations such as The Department of Conservation, ACC and other community groups to embed within the tamariki, the importance of being kaitiaki of the taiao.
