The Role
Principal | Tumuaki — St Peter Chanel Catholic School, Te Rapa, Hamilton
St Peter Chanel Catholic School is seeking an experienced, faith-filled and values-led educational leader to become our next Principal. This is a significant opportunity to lead a warm, inclusive and vibrant Catholic full-primary school in Te Rapa, Hamilton, with a current roll of 292 students from Years 0–8. Our culturally diverse community is proud of its strong relationships, high expectations, commitment to quality teaching and learning, and deeply embedded Catholic special character.
Following the retirement of our long-serving Principal, we are looking for a leader who will honour and build on our strong foundations while confidently leading us into the future.
Our new Principal will be a practising Catholic who will “live” the Catholic character of our school and build strong relationships between the school, parish and families/whānau. They will be:
- an experienced and successful educational leader with a strong focus on academic excellence and student progress
- warm, visible, approachable, involved, and genuinely student-centred
- an excellent communicator who builds trusting relationships with students, staff, whānau, parish and community
- collaborative and inclusive, valuing the voice and expertise of staff, students and the community
- committed to growing and developing staff and building a strong professional culture
- knowledgeable about curriculum, effective pedagogy, assessment and inclusive practice
- culturally responsive and committed to giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- future-focused, strengthening opportunities through learning, sport, arts, culture, service and leadership
- a capable strategic and operational leader who can successfully lead change while respecting the special character of our school.
If you are an inspiring leader who wants every student to flourish spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally and physically, we would love to hear from you. If you are ready to lead with heart, clarity and purpose, we would welcome your application.
School visits are encouraged. Please the Application Pack, page 8, for details.
Applications close: 1.00 pm, Friday 11 September 2026.
