Nicky Knight

Doctor of Education; M Ed Admin (Hons); BA; Dip Tchg; Cert. Training and HR Development; Accredited Coach GCI, EMCC Senior Practitioner

Nicky is an education consultant and founding Director of The Education Group, an independent consulting company based in Auckland. Nicky has a background in primary education, and as a Ministry of Education Accredited professional learning and development provider, designs and delivers professional learning and development for Boards, school leaders and teachers. She works in a wide range of state, state integrated and private primary, intermediate and secondary schools. She works with principals, senior leadership teams, boards in the areas of leadership training, coaching, governance training, Principal and Deputy Principal appointments, Professional Growth Cycles, literacy, mathematics, assessment for learning, school review, local curriculum and collaboration. She has extensive experience facilitating a wide range of public and in-house workshops in coaching, leadership and curriculum. Prior to setting up The Education Group in 2005, Nicky worked as a consultant and researcher for Massey University’s Institute for Professional Development and Educational Research, an advisor with The Auckland Education Advisory Services (mathematics, science, literacy) and on contract to MultiServe Education Trust in teacher professional learning and development. She also spent a brief time lecturing in mathematics at The University of Auckland.

Nicky is also the Director of Growth Coaching New Zealand, coordinating the implementation of a wide range of coaching workshops across New Zealand for Growth Coaching International (GCI) a highly reputable international coaching company based in Sydney. She attends GCI Strategic Leadership Team meetings gaining an international perspective on developments in coaching. Nicky has recently been awarded Senior Practitioner status with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.

Nicky completed a Doctor of Education with The University of Auckland. Her research examined the complex issue of sustaining improved student outcomes and teaching practice in mathematics. She has also presented at a number of local and international conferences on coaching. In 1993, she was awarded the Jim Campbell Award for Teaching Excellence in mathematics.
