For all new HODs/HOLs/HOFs/HOLAs, or those who want to refresh their leadership practice. This programme clarifies aspects of the role and responsibilities, strengthens communication skills, and provides opportunities to share ideas for leading curriculum development and managing priorities, time and workload.

Workshop Content:

  • Current thinking about effective leadership
  • The role and responsibilities of an HOD
  • Understanding the implications of NELP, the NZC refresh and developing a local curriculum
  • Understanding a leader’s role in building cultural capability and culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Building a positive and professional learning culture in a department
  • Organising a department including running effective meetings
  • Effectively leading change – process and practical strategies
  • Designing programmes/courses to ensure student achievement
  • Planning, assessment, and moderation responsibilities
  • Managing personnel and team dynamics
  • Fronting issues and managing conflict

Workshop Times:

  • Registration on day one opens at 8:15 am.
  • Workshop starts promptly at 8:30 am each day and finishes day one at 3:30 pm and day two at 3:00 pm
